Palestinians: Stop the Children's Intifada! by Khaled Abu Toameh

The exploitation of children in the fight against Israel has attracted little attention from the international community and the media. Human rights groups and the UN have chosen to turn a blind eye to this human rights abuse. Instead of condemning it, these groups are busy denouncing Israel for targeting minors.
This strategy works out well for Hamas and Fatah, who can always blame Israel for "deliberately targeting" Palestinian children — an allegation the media in the West often endorses without asking questions.
Even more worrying is that the Palestinian groups often reward the families, who then become less motivated to stop their children from risking their lives.
Adult activists who encourage and send children to take part in violence should be held accountable, not only by Israel but by their own people. If these adults want an intifada, they should be the first to go out and confront Israeli policemen and soldiers.
Hamas, Fatah and other Palestinian groups are using children from east Jerusalem and the West Bank in what appears to be a new intifada against Israel.
Nearly half of the Palestinians arrested by Jerusalem Police over the past few months areminors. Some of them are as young as nine.
These children are being sent to throw stones and firebombs, and launch fireworks at policemen and IDF soldiers, as well as at Israeli civilians and vehicles, including buses and the light rail in Jerusalem.

Masked Palestinian youths hurl rocks at a Jewish kindergarten near the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, Sept. 2014.
The exploitation of children in the fight against Israel has attracted little attention from the international community and media. Human rights groups and United Nations institutions have chosen to turn a blind eye to these human rights abuses.
Instead of condemning those who exploit the children and dispatch them to confront policemen and soldiers, these groups and institutions are busy denouncing Israel for targeting minors.
Most of the children's attacks occur after school, so they are not deprived of education. But sadly, some of the Palestinian minors get killed or wounded in clashes with Israeli security forces.
Orwa Hammad, a 14-year-old Palestinian-American boy from the village of Silwad near Ramallah, was shot dead by IDF soldiers last week. The IDF says he was spotted preparing to hurl a firebomb at Israeli vehicles.
Earlier, 13-year-old Bahaa Bader was shot dead by IDF soldiers in the village of Beit Likya, also in the Ramallah area. An IDF spokesman said soldiers responded with live fire when residents threw firebombs at them as they were exiting the village.
Last month, 16-year-old Mohammed Sinokort from the Wadi al-Joz neighborhood of Jerusalem was killed during a stone-throwing incident.
This is not the first time that Palestinian groups use children in the struggle against Israel. During the first intifada, which erupted in 1987, children and women were often at the forefront in clashes with Israeli security personnel.
This strategy works out well for Palestinian groups such as Hamas and Fatah. At the end of the day, they can always blame Israel for "deliberately" targeting Palestinian children and women -- an allegation that the mainstream media in the West often endorses without asking questions.
Moreover, the Palestinian groups know that the children who are being sent to confront Israeli soldiers and policemen will not be held accountable.
Most of the minors detained by the Jerusalem Police for their involvement in the violence are released to house arrest. In cases where the children are aged nine to 13, they are referred to social welfare authorities without being detained.
The majority of these children are going out to throw stones and firebombs at Israelis because they are come from poor families or are lacking in good education and other economic and social privileges. But many of them come from middle-class families and do not live in refugee camps.
These children are victims of a campaign of indoctrination and incitement that is being waged by various Palestinian groups such as Hamas and Fatah. It is a campaign that is being waged through the media, mosques, educational institutions and the fiery rhetoric of leaders and activists.
What is even more worrying is that the Palestinian groups often reward the families of the children by hiring lawyers and paying fines imposed on them by Israeli courts. As a result, the families are less motivated to stop their children from risking their lives.
There are also reports that Fatah and Hamas activists in Jerusalem have been paying children small sums of money to throw stones and firebombs at Israelis and block roads in several Arab neighborhoods.
Hamas and Fatah had long discovered that children are one of the most effective tools in the fight against Israel -- especially because of the damage Israel sustains in the court of international public opinion.
Thus far, it appears that the Palestinian groups have been successful in their effort to depict Israel as a country that deliberately targets Palestinian minors whose only crime is that they "resisted occupation."
Dressing children in military uniforms and allowing them to carry rifles and pistols during rallies in the West Bank and Gaza Strip is one way of encouraging them to put their lives at risk. But of course Hamas, Fatah and other Palestinian factions do not see anything wrong with this practice.
The adult activists who send and encourage children to take part in violence should be held accountable, not only by Israeli authorities, but also by their own people and international human rights organizations. If these adults want an intifada, they should be the first to go out and confront Israeli policemen and soldiers.
The time has come for the international community and media to pay attention to their disturbing conduct and demand that Palestinian groups stop hiding behind children.

ELDER OF ZIYON: Syria rips off Israeli hasbara cartoon

Seen on Twitter:

The (almost certainly) original:

(I have seen a Pakistani version against India, but the Israeli one seems to pre-date it; the arm patch looks much more natural in the Israeli one. It seems likely, however, that the Syrians ripped off the Pakistani rip-off; the Pakistani version had writing on the helmet that was poorly covered over in the Syrian version.)

This has also been a recurring cartoon theme for years in Israel; for example, this:

The irony of Syria, a state that has supported terror since the 1950s, complaining about terrorists hiding behind babies is almost too obvious to mention.

ISRAEL MATZAV: UN slams use of child soldiers, forgets 'Palestinian' 'human shields' and child combatants

Commendably (for a change), the United Nations has slammed the use of child soldiers in Syria and in several other countries. Regrettably, they left out the use of children as 'human shields' (above) and combatants (below) by the 'Palestinians' and other terror organizations.
The report issued after Ban's special envoy for children and armed conflict, Leila Zerrougui, visited Syria in December said thousands of children have been killed in the violence, "while thousands more have seen family members killed or injured."
The report also said children are recruited, killed, maimed or raped by government forces and armed groups in Afghanistan, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and Yemen, as well as by armed groups in Mali, Colombia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Iraq and the Central African Republic.
The United Nations considers anyone aged under 18 to be a child.
Ban said that in Syria, torture and ill-treatment of children accused of associating with opposition forces was a worrying trend.
"There were a number of accounts of sexual violence against boys to obtain information or a confession by the state forces, largely but not exclusively by members of the state intelligence services and the Syrian armed forces," the report said.
"Child detainees, largely boys and as young as 14 years old, suffered similar or identical methods of tortures as adults, including electric shock, beatings, stress positions and threats and acts of sexual torture," it said.
Armed opposition groups, including the Free Syrian Army, were also accused of using children, generally aged 15 to 17 years old, both in combat and in support roles, such as ferrying food and water and loading cartridges, the report said.
"From accounts received, child association with the Free Syrian Army is often linked to an older relative facilitating recruitment or in instances in which the child has lost all members of his or her family," it said.
But the United Nations 'forgot' (more likely didn't want to mention) the use of children as 'human shields' by 'Palestinian' terror organizations like Fatah and Hamas.
The picture at the bottom is of 'Palestinian' kids coming right up to the border fence with Israel on November 23, 2012.

And then there's this use of a child.

Let's go to the videotape.

But silly me. In the UN's book, it's okay for the 'Palestinians' to use children in combat and as 'human shields.' After all, the 'Palestinians' are a 'liberation movement.'

What could go wrong?

A7: IDF Commander: Average Arab Attacker is 12-14 Years; Old IDF commander explains how involvement of children in PA terror complicates the battle for security.

The fight against terrorism in Judea and Samaria is complicated by the young age of the attackers, IDF Colonel Yaniv Alaluf said Saturday evening.
Alaluf, commander for the Etzion region, spoke at a meeting with Israeli residents of the area. Israelis in Judea and Samaria have expressed strong concern over the recent increase in rock and firebomb attacks on drivers.
The attacks have caused serious injury in several instances, and have caused multiple deaths as well.
The average attacker is just 12-14 years old, Alaluf said. Many beg soldiers not to arrest them because they have tests in school the next day, he related.
Israeli officials have warned that PA textbooks and television programs are inciting children to terrorism.
Alaluf had some good news for residents. Israel is building a road that is further from Arab villages than the existing highways, which will hopefully make attacks less frequent, he said.
He also noted that a terrorism suspect who soldiers have been seeking for years was recently apprehended.
In addition, he said, “We aren’t seeing organized terrorist groups organizing attacks like they did in the past. Of course, in our region we’re trying to get back to the quiet we had in 2012.”

Civil Trial Attorney Baruch C. Cohen's letter to the editor regarding the Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine's sanitizing Sharia abuses

Dear Editor:

The April 2013 edition of the Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine presented an article by Abbas Hadjian entitled: “The Children of Sharia” about how Islamic nations apply civil and Islamic legal traditions differently in matters of child custody and spousal support. The article gave credence and even reverence to Islamic Sharia law and read as if this was just an innocent comparative law course. The article said nothing about how Sharia is a savage and barbaric set of archaic laws that threaten American democratic rule of law.

Shariah Law punishes violators of Islamic law with stonings, executions, amputations, whipings and beatings. Sharia law allows “honor killings,” genital mutilation, pre-teen marriages, polygamy, and divorce & inheritance rules that undercut the standing of women (i.e, testimony from non-Muslims and even Muslim women is given less weight than that of Muslim men). The list of human rights abuses of Sharia go on and on.

How your excellent magazine could turn such a blind eye to such human rights atrocities and sanitize Sharia's abuses as a legitimate set of laws worth studying is beyond me.

Five year old girl forced to marry - in England

From BBC:
A five-year-old girl is thought to have become the UK's youngest victim of forced marriage.

She was one of 400 children to receive assistance from the government's Forced Marriage Unit in the last year.

The figures have emerged as the public consultation into criminalising forced marriage in England, Wales and Northern Ireland comes to an end.

Amy Cumming, joint head of the Forced Marriage Unit, said 29% of the cases it dealt with last year involved minors.

"The youngest of these was actually five years old, so there are children involved in the practice across the school age range," she said.

To protect the child, the authorities have not disclosed details of the case or where the marriage took place.

But the case comes as no surprise to the Iranian and Kurdish Women's Rights Organisation (IKWRO), which deals with more than 100 cases of forced marriage a year.

"We have had clients who are in their very early teens, 11-year-olds, 12-year-olds, the youngest case we had was nine years old," said IKWRO campaigns officer Fionnuala Murphy.

Now the consultation on forced marriage has come to an end, IKWROs hope it will become a criminal offence.

"Our organisation is pro-criminalisation because we believe that it will empower victims to know that this is a crime, to stand up to their parents and to stand up for their own rights and it will enable them to come forward and seek help and say what's happening to me is wrong."

In 2011 the Forced Marriage Unit helped deal with around 1,500 cases, but many more are thought to go unreported.
While it is true that the phenomenon is not limited strictly to Muslims, it is interesting that the entire article does not mention the word "Islam" or "Muslim" once.

Israel believes Hamas trying to establish 'balance of terror' - According to senior defense source, Hamas' prime minister has no control over the situation in Gaza; information gathered from Thursday's bus attack show the shooters knew the target contained children.

A 16-year-old Israeli was critically injured on Thursday when an anti-tank missile fired from the Gaza Strip hit a school bus near Kibbutz Sa'ad. The missile attack was followed by additional mortar shelling from Gaza. The launch occurred just four to five kilometers from the target, from a point where it was clear students were on board and it was possible to keep the bus within sight.
A senior defense source told Haaretz on Thursday night that he believes this was an act by the military wing of the organization, and that their aim was to deter Israel and establish a "balance of terror."
According to the same source, Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh has no control over the situation and the head of the group's military wing, Ahmed Jabari, does not take his views into account when deciding military operations against Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces quickly retaliated for the attack, launching both land and air strikes on Hamas targets in the Strip, the IDF spokesperson said, killing a 50-year-old man and wounding five others.
Meanwhile, the Iron Dome rocket defense system made its first interception on Thursday when it blocked a Palestinian missile in flight, aimed at the southern city of Ashkelon - an operational first internationally.
Israel blamed Hamas for Thursday's escalation; the Islamist organization claimed responsibility for the rocket attack against the school bus, which followed a six-day lull in the exchange of fire. Those who ordered the attack on the school bus likely considered the fact that it could broaden the conflict.
While Israel's response is expected to be serious, at the same time, Israel would like to avoid a lengthy exchange that could result in rockets being launched at central Israel.
A Kornet-type anti-tank missile was fired from the Saja'iya neighborhood in eastern Gaza and struck the school bus at approximately 3:05 P.M. on Thursday, several minutes after a group of students had disembarked at Kibbutz Nahal-Oz. A 16-year old resident of Beit Shemesh was critically injured and the driver was lightly injured.
Hamas first fired the advanced, Russian-made missile last December, but this is the first time the target has been a civilian one. This was not a haphazardly chosen target, and it was clear the bus was carrying children. As the launch occurred within five kilometers of the target, it was possible for the attackers to keep the target within sight.
In other words, the attackers knew what they were attacking, and were clear about the implications of a mass strike on children under the already tense conditions. Such an operation requires relative expertise, intelligence and planning. All of these factors suggest that Hamas was likely involved.
On April 1, the Israel Air Force killed three Hamas operatives in a strike on a target in Khan Yunis. The IDF said the three were planning to kidnap Israeli tourists in Sinai. The military wing of Hamas announced yesterday that the anti-tank missile was fired to avenge the death of those operatives. Apparently Hamas had delayed the response because it had wanted to be ready to exact a higher price.
Both Defense Minister Ehud Barak and IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz visited the headquarters of the Gaza Division and warned of a heavy handed response against Hamas. Barak said that Israel considers Hamas to be "responsible for all that is taking place in the Gaza Strip. We expect that they understand what is permissible and what is not permissible."
The IDF "will continue its operations and will do whatever is necessary," Gantz said.
It is fair to assume that there is no real wish in Israel to become entangled in a major military operation before the Passover holiday. There is also the evidence that Hamas and Islamic Jihad have missiles and rockets capable of striking the southern suburbs of the Dan Region, a fact which puts the lives of two million Israelis in the line of fire.
Even though it appears the Palestinians will only fire at central Israel as a final resort, Israel is careful not to be drawn into a further escalation. Therefore, the military response will likely last a few more days, without any major ground operations at this stage.
It is important to appreciate the difference between the interpretation of each side to the events in recent weeks. From Israel's perspective, it is taking pinpoint action against specific threats.
Hamas considers these moves as an intentional accumulation, nearing a declaration of war: a series of air attacks on the Strip killing its operatives, the case of Dirar Abu Sisi (the Gazan engineer which Hamas claims Israel kidnapped in the Ukraine), and this week's bombing in Sudan, which has been attributed to Israel. As far as the military wing of the group is concerned, this is a list of actions which require a deterring response - in the form of Thursday's anti-tank missile attack, and the subsequent firing of mortars.

Mosque child abuse caught on camera in the UK

ISLAM Cannot withstand rational criticism, scientific examination or forensic inquiry. Islam can only spread and maintain itself by ignorance, illiteracy, war, terrorism, and intimidation. Islam has bloody borders and cannot co-exist peacefully with other belief systems. Winston Churchill said that Islam in a man is as dangerous as hydrophobia (rabies) in a dog. Islam demands obedience and blind following, and forbids itself to be tested.

MEMRI: Baby Martyrdom Culture among Shiites in Iran and Lebanon

The following are excerpts of reports on Ashura ceremonies in Iran and Lebanon, which aired on Hizbullah's Al-Manar TV (Lebanon) on December 11, 2010.
To view this clip on MEMRI TV, visit http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/2739.htm.
Speaker: "Tens of thousands of mothers in the Islamic Republic of Iran marked what is known as 'the Day of the Infant Abdallah,' after the youngest martyr of Karbala. The ceremonies, which were held in over 1,000 Iranian towns and villages, reenacted the killing of Abdallah, the son of Imam Hussein, while in the hands of his father in the desert."
Mother #1: "Imam Hussein took his children to Karbala, and they were martyred there. We have come here today to commemorate them."
Mother #2: "We will complete the path of jihad. We hope that our children will continue along the path of Imam Hussein."
Speaker: "Children of all ages in their mothers' arms participated in these grand ceremonies. There were mourning sessions and Ashura ceremonies. A model of the cot of the martyred child of Imam Hussein was passed around by the participants in memory of the childhood slaughtered at Karbala."
Mother #3: "The infant was killed unjustly. He is a symbol of the childhood that is killed on a daily basis, by the Front of Falsehood."
Speaker: "These ceremonies were held simultaneously in thirty cities worldwide, under the heading 'International Infant Day.' It is a day of identification with the Muslim children who are killed by the occupation in Palestine, in Iraq, and in Afghanistan, and a day of solidarity with the blood that is being shed unjustly. […]
"In green shrouds and red headbands, the infant children were brought by their mothers in order to console Hussein, son of Ali, for the death of his six-month-old son, who was martyred by the arrow of injustice, which slaughtered him, piercing (his throat) from one vein to the other, on the day of blood, while he was in his father's lap."
Mother #4: "We have to come to console Imam Hussein, our Prophet Muhammad, and our lady, Sayyida Fatima, after whom my daughter and I are named."
Mother #5: "We have come here today in order to say to Imam Hussein: We will all make sacrifices for you. We will sacrifice our children for you, Imam Hussein." […]
