Reb Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz Contributes to Netanyahu and Likud in Effort to Aid Chareidim

Reb Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz is well-known in the Torah world for his philanthropy. He is a baal chessed with a giant heart, whose days and nights are spent listening to the pleas of fellow Jews and others in need. On both individual and communal levels, Reb Shlomo Yehuda has a virtual antennae up at all times seeking out ways in which he can help the yochid and the tzibbur.
The reach of Reb Shlomo Yehuda’s askanus extends well beyond the world of Torah andchesed into the halls of power. Reb Shlomo Yehuda thinks big when it comes to acting on behalf of the chareidi tzibbur. It is in this light, Matzav.com has learned, that he has given a generous 44,517 shekel donation to the election campaign of Israeli Prime Minister Binyomin Netanyahu and the Likud party.
The past year has seen a strong disconnect between the chareidi parties in Israel and the prime minister. Reb Shlomo Yehuda’s goal is to use his influence to positively impact the state of affairs in the post-election Knesset for the betterment of the chareidi public.
Reb Shlomo Yehuda is known for, among many other things, his remarkable musical talent, and his latest foray into Israeli affairs is music to the ears of those concerned for the welfare of the chareidipublic in the coming years.
Reb Shlomo Yehuda’s uncle, Mr. Bobby Rechnitz, is the leader of the western division of the American Friends of Likud and a longtime personal friend and supporter of Prime Minister Netanyahu.
In an exclusive exchange with Matzav.com, Reb Shlomo Yehuda explained his intentions.
“We are trying to bring frum money to [Netanayahu's] campaign to encourage him to add thechareidim in the next government, thereby bringing back the money to the yeshivos and avreichim that [Yair] Lapid took away,” he said.

Netanyahu Meets With Top Donors During US Visit

netanyahu UNIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is literally putting his (well, his donors’) money where his mouth is. While the visit to NY was supposed to be a diplomatic tour to refute the lies of the Palestinians and garner support for a tougher tone on Iran, Netanyahu-who announced he’ll be running for a fourth term as prime minister- found plenty of time in his calendar to cuddle with his top donors.
After addressing the threat of Hamas and ISIS in a blistering speech at the UN General Assembly on Monday, Prime Minister Netanyahu was spotted dining with Las Vegas casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson in Midtown at Fresco by Scotto, Page Six reported Monday night.
Netanyahu also met last night with top donors in Weehawken, New Jersey, a source told JP. The dinner was attended by some 20 close friends and donors, among them Mort Zuckerman, editor-in-chief of U.S. News & World Report and the publisher of the New York Daily News;  Bob Rochnitz, founder of Bomel Companies and Bomel Israel, Ltd and chairman of the Iron dome tribute – a close confident of Prime Minister Netanyahu; and Professor Alan Dershowitz.
This morning Prime Minister Netanyahu will meet with guests of the Consulate General of Israel in New York and the Conference of Presidents at the Palace Hotel.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will also attend the reception.
No word yet if the Prime Minister would be meeting with NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, a staunch supporter of Israel and a defender of the Israeli operation in Gaza the past summer.

Statement of Robert Rechnitz, Chairman of the Iron Dome Tribute

Congress approved the bill today adding another $225 Million of funds to the Iron Dome.
While this bill had overwhelming bipartisan support and was expected to pass, it did encounter some difficulties which required immense lobbying in the last 10 days. One has to wonder why this became a political issue at a time when Israel is under siege from the Iran backed Hamas.

The attempt to attach the Iron Dome funding to a larger spending bill was a blatant partisan move that undermines the strong relationship between the US Congress and Israel. We are thankful to the Members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans alike, who sought to detach the requests and achieved victory. Israel's relationship with the United States and the US support of Israel is not a partisan issue. Any attempt to make it an issue ignores the common democratic interests of these two countries.

According to the IDF, the Iron Dome advanced anti-missile system has successfully destroyed 90 percent of its targets since the onset of the assault by Hamas three weeks ago.

Countless lives are being saved by the Iron Dome. Each time it is deployed, the danger to life is quite literally blown out of the sky. The project to develop the Iron Dome has been a close collaboration between Israel and the United States - Two countries for which there is no higher value than the sanctity of life. The initiative came to fruition after our friends in the US Congress, led by the late Senator Daniel Inouye fought with great commitment for its implementation.

Years of energetic lobbying efforts went into the eventual funding of the Iron Dome. Bringing the project to completion has required a committed bipartisan effort which continues to this day. Republicans and Democrats alike continue to show that when it comes to the security of the State of Israel, the United States stands as one.

We thank the United States Congress for its friendship, support, and sharing of democratic interests in the Middle East.

G-d bless America, G-d bless Israel.

Robert Rechnitz to be Honored at Peres Congressional Gold Medal Reception

(Friday, June 20th, 2014)
unnamedPreparations are being completed for Israeli President Shimon Peres final official visit to the US as head of state. Among the events and meetings being planned in conjunction with the primary purpose of President Peres is the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony scheduled to place on Thursday, June 26 in the Rotunda of the US Capitol.
unnamed (1)“The intent and goal of the legislative process awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to President Peres which will culminate in the Ceremony itself is to send a strong message to the world that the Congress of the United States by virtue of 2/3 of its members co-sponsoring the legislation stands shoulder to shoulder with the State of Israel” says Ezra Friedlander, CEO of The Friedlander Group who spearheaded the creation of the Shimon Peres Congressional Gold Medal Committee.
An exclusive reception will be commemorated in conjunction with the official Congressional Gold Medal ceremony honoring
Robert Rechnitz, founder and chairman of both the Jerusalem Conference and Iron Dome Tribute will be held prior to the Ceremony with the participation  of President Peres and Senator Kelly Ayotte who introduced the legislation in the Senate.
unnamed (2)“Recognizing Bobby Rechnitz for his pivotal role of his stewardship and sustaining the bilateral relationship between the United States of America & State of Israel” will be highlighted by President Peres according to a statement released by the Shimon Peres Gold Medal Committee.
“Having the vast majority of members of Congress support the be bestowing of America’s highest award to an Israeli head of state forges the unbreakable bond between the people of the United States and Israel
” said Robert Rechnitz who was instrumental in successful  advocating for the Peres legislation to pass.
Indeed for many years Robert Rechnitz has been a leader in cementing US Israeli relations by working with House Foreign Affairs Chair Ed Royce, Foreign Affairs Ranking Member Elliot Engel, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), a member of the Senate Appropriations Energy & Water subcommittee, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein among others.

Washington - US Israel Relationship Celebrated At Iron Dome Tribute Luncheon In DC

Washington - A number of Jewish leaders from across the United States gathered with a bipartisan group of senators, congressmen and other notables this past Wednesday in Washington DC to express their appreciation to members of the Senate and the House of Representatives for their support of the Iron Dome Missile Defense System.
Seventeen members of congress and Israeli ambassador Michael Oren were among those who gathered in the Kennedy Caucus Room of the Russell Senate Office Building for the Iron Dome Tribute Luncheon. The event also honored the memory of Senator Daniel Inouye, who was instrumental in securing funding for the Iron Dome and was known as a staunch ally of the State of Israel throughout his illustrious political career which spanned over fifty years.
“We have no political agenda,” explained Robert Rechnitz, chairman of the tribute luncheon.  “We are here to simply offer our gratitude to the United States for its unwavering support of Israel.”
Since 2009, the Obama administration and congress have allocated almost $300 million to the short range missile defense system which is credited for saving the lives of thousands of civilians during recent rocket attacks this past fall. Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren, praised Iron Dome for its ability to destroy missiles in combat situations saying, “It is literally rocket science.”
“The Iron Dome doesn’t only save lives, it prevents wars,” declared Ambassador Oren.  “Behind the Iron Dome stands a marble dome:  the Capitol of the United States of America.”
Among the many speakers during the luncheon was Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Republican Congressman Ed Royce of California, who stressed the significance of Americans seeing the effectiveness of the anti-ballistic missile system in action and praised Iron Dome for its ninety percent success rate.
“My overriding goal as chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee is to strengthen American allies like Israel and weaken our enemies like Iran and Hezbollah,” said Royce.
The luncheon was also an opportunity to recognize both the accomplishments of the many members of congress who have demonstrated their support for Israel as well as the strong ties between the United States and Israel and several of the elected officials who spoke shared their recollections of their own visits to Israel.
Congressman Joe Kennedy III recalled seeing reinforced bus shelters that doubled as bomb shelters on his recent visit to Sderot.
“The only thing Israel asks for is its right to exist.  That’s not too much to ask,” said the Massachusetts Democrat.
Politicians from both sides of the aisle expressed their unwavering support for Israel and the Iron Dome, with Democratic Congressman Eliot Engel announcing, “Support for Israel is strong and bipartisan and that’s the way it should be,” and Republican Congressman Trent Franks declaring, “The Iron Dome has become the face of missile defense for the world.”
Ezra Friedlander, CEO of The Friedlander Group which coordinated the event, called the luncheon a resounding success.
“The importance of gathering in the Senate to express a sense of gratitude goes a very long way in communicating with members of Congress how much the American Jewish community and the entire pro-Israel community values their ongoing support and how critical it is for the US-Israel relationship,” Friedlander told VIN News.  “Although we live in the age of Twitter, the importance of face to face communication and interaction cannot be overemphasized and that was accomplished this week at the Iron Dome tribute.”

Robert Rechnitz: Congress Gearing up for Iron Dome Tribute

The eyes of the world at large, and the Jewish community in particular, were fixed on Israel during November of 2012. With over 1,500 rockets from Gaza bearing down on Israeli civilians, a barrage of destruction seemed imminent. However, only 55 rockets were able to fall in urban areas because the rest had been effectively disabled by the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system, saving the lives of many innocent men, women and children residing in Southern Israel. The Iron Dome Defense System, created by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, was originally developed by Israel but later received considerable funding from the United States. Many members of Congress and the Obama administration worked tirelessly to ensure that proper funding was allocated to this life-saving system.
The Iron Dome Tribute luncheon, which is scheduled to take place in the United States Senate on February 27th and is chaired by prominent Los Angeles based Jewish philanthropist and businessman Robert Rechnitz,  enables these efforts to be recognized in the presence of Jewish leaders and freedom-loving activists who value human life.

The Yeshiva World News sits down with Chairman Robert Rechnitz to find out more about this exciting event.
YWN: Before we discuss the Tribute can you give us background on Iron Dome?
Robert Rechnitz: The Iron Dome is a mobile all-weather air defense system. The system, created as a defensive countermeasure to the rocket threat against Israel’s civilian population on its northern and southern borders, designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4 to 70 kilometers away and whose trajectory would take them to a populated area.
YWN: How did the Iron Dome all come about?
Robert Rechnitz: During the 2006 Second Lebanon War, approximately 4,000 Hezbollah-fired rockets, the great majority of which were short-range Katyusha rockets, landed in northern Israel, including on Haifa, the country’s third largest city. The massive rocket barrage killed 44 Israeli civilians and caused some 250,000 Israeli citizens to evacuate and relocate to other parts of Israel while an estimated 1,000,000 Israelis were confined in or near shelters during the conflict.  To the south, more than 4,000 rockets and 4,000 mortar bombs were fired into Israel from Gaza between 2000 and 2008, principally by Hamas. Almost all of the rockets fired were Qassams launched by 122 mm Grad launchers smuggled into the Gaza Strip, giving longer range than earlier launch methods. Nearly 1,000,000 Israelis living in the south are within rocket range, posing a serious security threat to the country and its citizens.
YWN: What is the purpose of the Iron Dome Congressional Tribute?
Robert Rechnitz: The Iron Dome Tribute Event, which is being coordinated by the NYC and Washington DC, based Friedlander Group under the leadership of CEO Ezra Friedlander, makes it possible for prominent Democratic and Republican members of Congress to unite and join with leaders in the Jewish community to pay to tribute to the success of the Iron Dome anti-missile defense system and celebrate the enduring relationship between the United States and the State of Israel. This special event also presents a unique opportunity to recognize  members of Congress who played and will continue to play an important role in securing the funding and overall support for Iron Dome in the presence of numerous influential Jewish leaders and freedom-loving activists.
YWN: Who will be participating?
Robert Rechnitz: The luncheon has many esteemed participants. Attendees will hear speeches from noted lawmakers such as House Foreign Affairs Chairman Ed Royce & Ranking Member Eliot Engel; United States Senators: Rand Paul (R-KY), Pat Roberts (R-KS), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Mark Pryor, James Inhofe (R-OK), Mark Warner (D-VA), Joe Donnelly (R-OH), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), as well as United States Representatives: Joseph P. Kennedy III (D-MA), Bill Johnson (R-OH), and Matt Salmon (R-AZ), Adam Schiff (D-CA). We will also have the privilege of hearing remarks from the Ambassador of Israel to the United States Michael Oren, Irene Inouye, wife of the late Senator Daniel Inouye of Hawaii, and former CIA Director Robert James Woolsey, Jr. The bipartisan mix of Republican and Democratic contributors is sure to make the speeches diverse and illuminating. Former Comptroller of NYC, William J. Thompson Jr. will be making a special trip from NYC to attend as well.
YWN: What is your objective by holding this event in the Congress?
Robert Rechnitz: I believe that holding the event in Congress is a true expression of gratitude on behalf of the American Jewish community and those who value human life. The way I see it, the Iron Dome System primarily accomplished two significant things: It played a major role in the Israeli government’s decision against a full-scale ground invasion of Gaza, and it saved the lives of countless civilians by protecting them against a barrage of deadly rockets fired at their neighborhoods and their homes.
YWN: What does this event mean for the Jewish community?
Robert Rechnitz: This event promises to be truly unifying for the Jewish community. It is a unique opportunity for Jewish leaders to gather with members of Congress and celebrate a shared triumph. The Iron Dome is a manifestation of the strong U.S.-Israel alliance and is something that those of us in the pro-Israel community view as a true success.
YWN: What motivated you to chair this event?
Robert Rechnitz: For many years, I have enjoyed close relationships with the highest echelons of the Israeli government. I am personally acquainted and a supporter of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. I am a proponent of a strong U.S. defense policy and I feel that the Iron Dome represents the essence of the U.S.-Israel alliance, which is a strong motivation for taking a leadership role in this important tribute. At this point I feel I need to highlight several individuals who have and are going to play important roles in this historic event: They are: Co Chairman Lee Samson of Beverly Hills, Phil Rosen, as well as my son Jona Rechnitz of NYC, Paul Raps, Stanley Treitel and others.
YWN: I see that the event will also pay tribute to the late Senator Daniel Inouye. Can you tell me a little bit more about that?
Robert Rechnitz: We felt it would appropriate to honor the memory of the Senator Daniel Inouye, whose connection to the Jewish people emanated from his soul. As many know, following World War II, Senator Inouye was recovering from the loss of his arm in combat and upon learning about the struggles and triumphs of Holocaust survivors began a lifetime attachment to the Jewish people and later, the State of Israel. Senator Inouye had a deep connection with the Jewish people that he expressed through spirited advocacy on their behalf and his steadfast support of Israel. He was a true American patriot and hero and his valuable contributions to the battle for justice, freedom and civil liberties will forever endear him as a true American patriot and hero.

Enthusiastic Pre-Army Students Dance Before PM Netanyahu

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu toured the city of Lod last Tuesday, May 31. During the tour he met with students at the Maoz religious pre-military academy, as well as with graduates of the Ma'agalim program, who study at pre-military academies around the country. The visit was initiated by Education Minister Gideon Saar, who accompanied Netanyahu on the tour along with Deputy Minister Gila Gamliel and coalition chairman MK Zeev Elkin.
