While under tremendous world scrutiny for its economic woes, the government of Greece took a very brave stand against the Gaza Flotilla. Foreign Minister Stavros Lambrinidis defended the ban on Gaza flotilla ships leaving his country's ports on Thursday, Athens, which has improved ties with Israel in recent years, has said it issued the ban for security reasons, pointing to a similar blockade-busting effort last year
The port blockade was under a provision of Greek law governing "the necessity of ensuring the safety of people and the safety of sailing that allows the government to prevent the sailing of the ship," he said.
Lambrinidis said that his government last week informed U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that Greece was ready to offload aid slated for Gaza from the activists' vessels and deliver it on Greek ships.
LET'S ALL THANK GREECE, here's how:
Write or call the Greek consulate and express your thanks for their support of Israel. Let them know that you will do what you can to help their economy by buying Greek goods or even planning your next vacation to Greece. It takes only a brief minute to act on behalf of Israel.
