The terrible and unprecedented occurrences of Shmini Atzeret, the culmination of the days of “Thou shall be happy on your holidays,” are still unfolding. The fullness of the tragedy may not be known for days. Yet, today we turn our attention and embrace the bereaved families of those proud and brave fighters from all branches of the security forces. We pray that the beautiful families who lost their most dear ones will be comforted and supported by Almighty G-d through their time of mourning and travail. Just as we recognize the soldiers’ ultimate sacrifice that helps secure our safety in the land for many years, so must we appreciate the contributions of their wives, children, parents, along with their entire families. Our obligation to them is infinite, just as their contribution was over many long years.
We send our condolences and encouragement to the families of the civilians who were slaughtered by the most despicable people, lacking in any form of conscience or values. May the families be comforted from Above. In addition, we know that you join us in our prayers that the captives taken to Gaza shall be returned to their homes quickly, whole of body and spirit.
