During the summer it’s one of Israel’s most tranquil spots, in the winter the Banias Waterfall becomes a raging torrent.

It’s Israel’s tallest waterfall, and in the winter the Banias is one of the most impressive sights in the Golan as water cascades down the rocks. With all the recent rain and snow the Banias is particularly spectacular now, though it’s lovely to visit any time of the year. The Banias Spring emerges at the foot of Mount Hermon and flows through a canyon leading to the 10-meter (30-foot) Banias Waterfall. The Hermon Stream meets the Dan River farther along, and together they feed the Jordan River. This week’s photograph of the week is by Shutterstock.
