Postcard from Israel: Mishkenot Sha'ananim

Mishkenot Sha’ananim (“Tranquil Dwellings”) is a complicated-sounding name for a bucolic and culturally significant part of Jerusalem just across from the walls of the Old City.
Dating to the 19th century, Mishkenot Sha’ananim is punctuated by the signature windmill built by Sir Moses Montefiore. It boasts manicured parks, fountains, fine dining, historical buildings and institutions such as the Jerusalem Music Center, the Mishkenot Cultural Center, the Dwek Gallery, the Confederation House and The Guesthouse for artists and scholars.
