None Shall Escape (André De Toth, 1944) The Train
Famous scene from André De Toth's little seen WWII film, None Shall Escape. Startling for its depiction of the Shoah in a Hollywood film prior to the end of the war. Also, characteristic of De Toth's usual unflinching, tough-as-nails approach to filmmaking.
Also startling is its use of (more than usual) graphic violence. The depiction of the firing of a gun and its inflicting wound in the same shot goes against the rule dictating "[b]rutal killings are not to be presented in detail" and was rarely seen under the Code. The final shot showing the bodies awash in pools of blood is practically unheard of for a studio film in its grisly detail.
